In the tradition of my late Nana, Lida Marie, I wrote a poem blessing for my family’s Thanksgiving dinner last week. Gratitude multiplies, so I encourage you to make it a daily practice!

Let us gather, each and all,

Holding hands while red leaves fall.

The sun is low, winter knocks.

Soon, we’ll double up our socks.

But cold nights have little might

Against kinship and love’s light.

The harvest’s in, we give thanks –

Not for what’s inside the bank,

But for a hug, or kind words,

For blue skies, for singing birds,

For ferry boats to the isles,

For those lost along the miles,

For good health when good health’s got,

And medicine when it’s not,

For being given enough,

Of all Creator’s best stuff,

Like meat, veggies, even prunes,

Fiddles, guitars, and great tunes.

And for those travelling away

(We’ll feed them some other day).

In the meantime, let’s begin

With grateful hearts – c’mon dig in!
